The term diabetes mellitus includes several different metabolic disorders, results in abnormally high concentrations of a sugar called glucose in the blood. DM type 1 results when the pancreas no longer produces significant amounts of the insulin, owing to the destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. DM type 2, in contrast, results from insulin resistance.

The metabolic syndrome refers to a clustering of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors whose underlying pathophysiology may be related to insulin resistance.Hypoglycemia means “low blood sugar”. Hypoglycemia is treated by restoring the glucose level to traditional by the uptake or administration of glucose or macromolecule foods. The number of people diagnosed with diabetes has risen from 1.5 million in 1958 to 18.8 million in 2010, an increase of diabetes epidemiological proportions. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death listed on U.S. death certificates. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among people with diabetes - about 68 percent die of heart disease or stroke. Overweight and obesity are driving the global diabetes epidemic. They affect the majority of adults in most developed countries and are increasing rapidly in developing countries.
